Mimi Stillman

Thank you for visiting my new Mini-Site at Flutewise.com.

Many of you have asked me to make my past columns available to you, so now you can browse through an archive of my articles and follow other links for more information about me.

In my columns, I write about flute music, history of the flute and flutists, tips on technique and interpretation, and what it is like to be a musician. I think it is important to set the flute in a cultural and historical framework.

I'm always delighted to hear from you, so continue sending me your emails. Now you can write to me at mimi [at] flutewise.com

I feel privileged to have the opportunity to share my love for the flute in this way. Remember to love playing your instrument and have fun always!

Warmly, Mimi

I'm thrilled to announce that my book of arrangements of Debussy songs, Nuit d'etoiles: 8 Early Songs Arranged for Flute and Piano, was published by the Theodore Presser Company in August 2002.

I gave the official premiere at the National Flute Association Convention in Washington, DC, USA in August, 2002. The eight songs are beautiful, romantic pieces that challenge the player to "sing" with individual expression.

I wrote an Introduction to Debussy and his songs, Performance Notes for interpreting them, and a glossary of the French and Intalian musical terms in themusic.

The songs can be performed in sets on recital programs, as encore pieces, and are suited to players of every level. You can obtain your own copy of my book from most of the shops who support Flutewise.

I hope you will enjoy playing these Debussy songs as much as I do! Let me know how you like playing them.
