When
Flutewise started in 1988, it was with the production of a 12 page
black and white magazine, sent out to 400 initial subscribers. Between
then and now the magazine has grown to 52 pages - of which 16 are
full colour.
In
March 1998 Flutewise was launched in the USA and is distributed
by Theodore Presser Company, to a steadily growing readership.
The
Magazine is educational, informative, but most of all fun; members
play a very active part through competitions, quizzes, letters and
flutepals.
Articles
in the magazine cover all areas of flute playing, such as technique,
history, theory, musicality, flute care, flute construction, reviews
of new music and recordings, news and reviews of events and courses,
profiles on professional players, news items, advice letters, general
letters, teaching help, as well as fun items and jokes.
The
articles are written by world renowned professional players, teachers
and the members themselves. The magazine carries advertising from
flute manufacturers, specialist flute shops and music publishers.
The revenue from the advertising helps to support the printing costs.
