| Events
began in a fairly small way and have developed into major attractions
at the Barbican Centre, London, and to nationwide tours, as well
as the residential courses.
Events
are held throughout the country, giving opportunities for players
of all ages and standards to meet together and take part in Flutewise
masterclasses, workshops, flute choirs and ensembles. The aim is
to have students learning from the top players and the professional
showcasing their talent.
Residential
courses
A twice yearly residential course has been established and professional
players and students alike, benefit from interaction. Jeanne Galway
teaches at one of these courses each year, the other course is staffed
by a rota of professional players/teachers. At our Easter course
in Staffordshire our final concert is performed at Alton Towers,
one of Europe's biggest theme parks.
Galway/Flutewise Playalongs
These are extremely popular pre-concert events. The children attend
a workshop at the concert venue that Sir James Galway is performing
at. Music is prepared during this time and then the Galways come
and play and exchange ideas with the children for 20-30 minutes.
Parents come and take photographs and observe. Such events have
been running since 1997 in concert halls around the UK, including
Scotland and N. Ireland, USA and various past of Europe.
Project:Flutewise
This is a series of 3 one-day interlinked flute events funded by
Youth Music. The days are very carefully constructed with regard
to educational content and each child receives a book of music with
accompanying CD before the event so they can learn the music to
be studied. The CDs were recorded by Lady Jeanne Galway with Philip
Moll, Clare Southworth with Tim Carey and Trevor Wye with Clifford
Benson. These events have taken place in Staffordshire, Sheffield,
Leicester, Cornwall, Somerset, Yorkshire, Gloucestershire and the
North East. Further funding is being sought to run the Project in
other areas.
Barbican Events
Major events have been held in the Barbican Centre attracting 5,000
people over 2 days.
Colourscape
Flutewise is working in collaboration with Colourscape, an inflatable
labyrinth which is used as a portable concert venue, and running
summer festivals.
Fundays
These informal days are held at the request of members all over
the UK. They are informative and great fun.
The
events provide a real opportunity to meet and play with many of
the world’s most celebrated players.
