Information for parents
What age group is Flutewise aimed at?
Our events, magazine and website are all aimed at young flute players aged approximately 8 to 18 years, but we do have a large number of older members including people who have been members since they were children and are now adults, teachers and amateur adult players.
Does my daughter have to be a very good player to join?
No, we cater for beginners to post Grade 8. People often ask how, but we do, we've had over 20 years experience of providing an excellent magazine and top quality events for young flute players and many of them keep coming back for more so we must be getting something right.
My son is 13 and has been playing the flute for 3 years. He was very keen but has now lost interest. Can Flutewise inspire him?
Absolutely yes - well, we'll do our best. Articles in the magazine should re kindle his interest - from learning about people to playing the flute or learning a new skill or even discovering a piece of music he might try and play - all of this should help. If you can persuade him to attend a residential course you will be amazed at the new found commitment you'll see.
Are your staff on courses and events suitably vetted?
Absolutely yes. Most of our staff are qualified, experienced and practising teachers. We have CRB checks carried out where necessary and we will be implementing the new rules brought in by the Government, the Vetting and Barring scheme. We have a child protection policy which we strictly adhere to.
Can parents attend your events?
It depends on the event. Our residential courses are for people aged 8 to 18 only and apart from teaching staff on the course, no other adults are allowed into the building during the course apart from parents when they deliver their child on the first day and on the final day when we have a short concert and a cup of tea.
Day events vary depending on how they are funded. Some events are for young people only but we usually invite parents and friends for a short performance at the end of the event. Some events, like Flutewise Live! at the Barbican/Guildhall School of Music and Drama which we held in May 09, are designed for young people, adults and parents alike.
If I join my niece for her birthday can you include a greetings card?
We would be delighted, just tell us what you would like written in the card.
How can I pay for membership?
You can either pay using Google Payment which is extremely secure or send a cheque or postal order to Flutewise, 8/9 Beaconsfield Road, Portslade by Sea, East Sussex, BN41 1XA.
