If you are aged 8 to 18 and love playing your flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe or bassoon you really should come to this fantastic residential course. It will be our 10th course at this venue and it will be the 25th anniversary of Flutewise, so you can expect some exciting and special things to happen.
All keen young musicians will benefit from this course which is open to woodwind players of all standards, from beginners to post grade 8. Our experienced team of staff carefully plan the course to give each course member a well-balanced experience - some intensive study mixed with lots of fun. We have a core team of house staff (all qualified and experienced musicians and teachers) who are assisted by some of our Flutewise Apprentices. This makes the ratio of staff to course members extremely high ensuring every young person is really well looked after. We also have guest professional musicians who visit to give workshops and performances.
A typical day on a course is:
8.00 Breakfast
9.00 Warm up followed by massed ensemble playing
10.30 Break
11.00 Workshops
12.30 Lunch
13.15 Small ensemble groups and/or the opportunity to work with our pianist
15.00 Break
15.15 Outside game or walk
16.00 Concert (this could be course members or staff or visiting guest)
17.00 Scale game (this is a famous game devised by Abbie Burrows and yes, everyone is more than willing to play their scales at this time of day if it is the Scale Game!)
18.00 Dinner
19.00 Concert (this is either staff or visiting guest)
20.00 Game or other social activity
You might like to read letters about a past course, click on this link. Abbotsholme is an excellent venue which we have been using for residential courses since 2003. Flutewise has exclusive use of the building during the course. Bedrooms are usually shared and all food is provided. Special dietary requirements can be catered for.

The cost of this course is £285 which includes all tuition, accommodation and food and VAT where applicable from 16.00 on 10 April until 16.00 on 13 April. You can reserve a place by either using this online form and pay a deposit of £30 or download the booking form below and return it by post with a cheque for either the full amount or a £30 deposit. The balance for the course will need to be paid by 1st March 2013.
