PlayalongIn May 2009 we held an event, Flutewise Live! at the Barbican Centre and Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. We had an amazing time. After the event we asked our members what there favourite parts were. We've put together these favourite elements and created a very special event.

This is an outline of what will be happening during the afternoon:

Flutewise Apprentices perform
The afternoon will start with a flute choir performance by some of our Flutewise Apprentices.

Warm up session
You can join in with a warm up session of funny noises led by Gareth McLearnon. He'll show us all how to find some really interesting and easy to produce sounds on our flute and turn these into a short performance.

ABBA Playalong
Young people and adults alike just loved playing along to ABBA favourites at our last event, so we are doing this again. Permission is being asked for us to play the following pieces:

  • Super Trouper
  • Winner Takes All
  • Gimme Gimmme Gimme
  • Dancing Queen
  • Mama Mia

The music will be displayed on an overhead projector. If you would like to practise the music before hand you will find the versions all of the pieces in ABBA Gold - Greatest Hits, Flue Play-along, Wise Publications AM996105.

Mike Mower new flute choir piece

Mike Mower is composing an exciting new piece for this event. More information will be available soon. Flutewise members will be able to gain access to the parts before the event. This will be suitable from players from beginners to Grade 8+. We will all perform this piece at the end of the afternoon event.

Shopping

A very important part of the event will be the opportunity to go and explore the trade stands which wil be there with a huge range of flutes and all things flute-related. You'll be able to try a vast range of flutes and piccolos - from lovely little plastic ones to solid gold ones. There will be a huge range of sheet music as well as recordings and accessories. A list of shops attending will be confirmed soon.

WrongConcert

The Wrong Concert

The Wrong Concert is a theatrical, pantomime-style performance. It features renowned flute professionals deliberately playing badly!  It is the job of the audience to correct their mistakes and put them right...

You can learn the pieces before the event that the professional players are going to  (try) and perform in the Wrong Concert and see if you make a better job of it than they do. Some of the pieces are available now to our Flutewise members on our website. You need to log on to the website to access these. The others will be available very soon.

The pieces you will hear are:
Flute and piano pieces
Danny Boy
Godard - Allegretto from Suite de Morceaux
Paradis: Siciliennne

Flute Duo
Doppler: Andante from Andante and Rondo for 2 flutes and piano

Flute ensemble piece
Bizet: Carmen Fantasy

Hurry and book your place - it's going to be amazing!
