More on our Flutewise Academy at Purcell School

As well as getting ready for Croatia, I've also been working quite hard on preparations for our course at the Purcell School. I don't know if you've noticed, but I've opened it up to day visitors. As well as getting ready for Croatia, I've also been working quite hard on preparations for our course at the Purcell School. I don't know if you've noticed, but I've opened it up to day visitors. If you would like to come, you need to reserve your place very quickly by email. There are limited places, so don't delay.

SchottI'm delighted with what we are going to be doing on those two days - of course everything else we do when the day visitors aren't there will be very special and exciting. On Wednesday morning we are going to have a jazz session with John O'Neill, thanks to Schott Music. You can read more about him here.

In the afternoon we are going to have a workshop with Sally Adams. Now I know lots of you will recognise that name. Sally is the author of many excellent books of flute music. She is also a superb flute teacher and player. Sally is going to give a workshop about how to give a superb performance. So whether you have a Grade or diploma exam coming up, a recital to play in or you just want to play to Granny and Granddad, you'll be able to learn lots and lots here, including how to deal with nerves.  I'm grateful to Faber Music for sponsoring this workshop.

We'll also have Top Wind along with their travelling flute shop all day on Wednesday.

Thursday is going to be a day when we are going to be exploring technology and strange sounds with the flute. We'll be having a Beatboxing session with Pasha Mansurov. Pasha, who was born in Russia, is a great flute player and has studied at the Purcell School, Royal Academy and Guildhall as well as a few other places. You can find more out about him on his website   You might also know Pasha from Just Flutes.

Other things we will explore on Thursday will include: Playalongs; the use of SmartMusic and Sibelius/Finale; Recording; Amplification and playing with a loop station. It will all be great fun and very informative.

We will also hear an exclusive performance by Flight.

I think you'll agree, that sounds good. I'm really looking forward to it. I might also have a few more surprises. Hope to see you there.
