Concert - Very Important

I had a nice chat to Gareth Davies on the phone today. He has been thinking hard about what he should play at our concert on 25 March at the Cadogan Hall and he has come up with a rather nice possible idea. He is going to let YOU choose! He is suggesting that he could play anything of your choice provided it comes from a Grade exam syllabus. It could be your favourite Grade 1 piece or the hardest thing you can find on the Grade 8 list or just something you love and think other people would also love to hear.

Would you like to have a say? All you need do is either use the comment box below or send me an email stating your choice and which Grade and exam board it is from. That's easy. We'll look at everything that is suggested and hopefully come up with a programme. We'll include as much as we can. It all seems exciting to me. Please take part!

Have you ever seen a painting by Adolph -wait for the surname- Mendez? We went to Berlin at Christmas and saw lots of work by this interesting artist. Here Prince Frederick is playing his flute by candlelight as a rapt audience listens. His sister is leaning forward, Bach is playing the piano and his teacher is listening at the back left in glorious bliss. Surely all flute players would like to be so pictured?
The thing about German museums and galleries is that they all have audio tapes so you can hear the story -in English - and the music being played so it makes it bearable.
We also went to the musical instruments museum which was surprisingly absorbing even though I was followed around very closely by security guards as all the instruments were open.

I went to berlin over christmas and I think I saw this piece of art. I think it is amazing. I recommend anyone who is a flute player but also interested in art to go and see it. The tour guides are in English so the mix of the commentary and amazing flute playing is magnificent. It's by Adolph Menzel and is in the new national gallery in Berlin.

Dear Matthew's Secretary,

First of all, please would you be so kind as to inform Matthew that I think he'll find it's Adolph Menzel - not Mendez. And the picture I believe he was wishing to refer to is this one:

Secondly, and most importantly I would be very grateful if you could ask Matthew which Grade Exam pieces he might like to hear Gareth Davies play at the Flutewise@Cadogan Concert on the 25th of March?

Sincerely,

Gareth
