Chelmsford Sinfonietta's May Festival 2010
I received this today and I thought it might interest many of you:
Calling All Flautists
Chelmsford Sinfonietta's May Festival 2010 in Chelmsford Cathedral offers a
fantastic opportunity to hear some of the best know flautists in the country
in the form of Ian Clarke, Trevor Wye and Clare Southworth.
The festival opens with Ian Clarke and Trevor Wye on Thursday 6th May at
Chelmsford Cathedral. They will be accompanied by ex-KEGS student and
internationally recognised pianist and accompanist Tim Carey.
Ian Clarke is a much sought-after teacher at London's Guildhall School of
Music. He has developed a unique way of playing the flute using his own
"extended techniques". Young flute players the world over aspire to play
his compositions, which open up a whole new sound-world.
Trevor Wye has established a reputation as one of the world's greatest
authorities and teachers of the flute. Flute students around the world will
have used some of his editions and publications, at least 250 in number. He
will be presenting his Carnival of Venice, for 56 different flutes !
On the afternoon of 6th May, Ian Clarke will be giving a pre-concert
workshop for flautists aged 8 to 18 (grades 1 upwards) to learn one of his
own compositions, which they will perform with him in the evening concert.
The workshop is being held at Chelmsford County High School for Girls from 4
pm to 6 pm. Full details are only available from the Flutewise website
www.flutewise.com .
This will be an amazing opportunity to work with Ian and learn more about
his innovative style.
Clare Southworth, one of England's most talented and best-known flautists,
has also established an enviable reputation as an author and a teacher, both
privately and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the
Royal Academy in London. Clare will be playing the Reinecke Concerto with
Chelmsford Sinfonietta on Saturday 8th May at Chelmsford Cathedral. Wagner's
Siegfried Idyll and Beethoven's Eroica Symphony make up the rest of the
concert, conducted by David Gibson.
In between the flutey flavoured concerts, May 7th sees a piano recital by
pianist Grace Francis who will be performing works by Brahms, Rachmaninov
and Liszt.
